Marcus Haefs can rightly be described as a Düsseldorf punk rock icon and a veteran of the scene. From his wild beginnings in the Ratinger Hof in the early eighties, as a long-time Fortuna stadium DJ with music far removed from the mainstream, or in the close circle of friends of the Toten Hosen/JKP family the punk rocker, also affectionately known as “Grandpa”, is known as a colourful dog and has also been musically active as a singer in numerous bands.
Somehow, however, he has never released anything apart from DIY releases (e.g. Cashbar Club). There are more important things in punk rock! Together with his friends he founded “DEAD DATES” 2 years ago and with no more fitting title than “Lang genug gewartet” their debut is finally officially out on Sunny Bastards Records!
Recorded in the famous Wild Wood Studios in Düsseldorf (producer Karsten Wegener), Haefs incorporates all decades of his passion for the scene into the music of Dead Dates.
Be it “(Zusammen) die beste Zeit”, which is strongly reminiscent of the old Opel Gang days, 77 UK punk rock times with “Red Carpet” or the 3 chords that always apply. Always combined with catchy lyrics that simply make a good song.
In addition, “Alles geht einmal vorbei” is a real anthem that immediately sticks in your head. The Dead Dates have a perfect feel for what punk rock has always been about and don't want to reach for the big stars.
That's what makes “Lang genug gewartet” so likeable!
