The name HEXENHAUS is German for "witch’s house" and is a reference to the Malefizhaus in Bamberg, Germany. A frightful place where hundreds of
suspected witches were tortured and executed during the early 17:th century. The band recorded a first demo in 1988, which tracks also ended up on their
debut album "A Tribute To Insanity" the same year. Some call Hexenhaus Sweden’s best kept thrash metal secret, featuring their most prominent member
Mike Wead, who played in Candlemass before and joined King Diamond, Mercyful Fate and Memento Mori later. "When I listen back to “A Tribute To
Insanity” today I’m surprised myself how many riffs we used in the songs. There are interesting things going on the whole time as the album plays", says
Wead, who was heavily inspired by Exodus, Slayer and others´by that time.
