DESCRIPTION

Richard Jobson had only just left school in Dunfermline when along with Stuart Adamson, Bill Simpson and Tam Kellichan he formed the punk rock band The Skids in 1977. Arguably Scotland’s most successful Punk band, by April the following year they had a major record deal and soon found themselves on Top of The Pops performing ‘The Saints Are Coming’. Jobson along with guitarist Stuart Adamson co-wrote the group’s songs including ‘Working For The Yankee Dollar’ and the Top Ten smash hit ‘Into The Valley’. As a major part of the Punk movement Richard talks about his relationships with many of Punks top brass including The Stranglers who The Skids toured with in 1978 and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols who he once shared a flat with. After four albums The Skids folded and Jobson formed The Armoury Show. His songwriting partner Stuart Adamson moved on to form super band Big Country. Their relationship is explored in detail throughout. Into The Valley also explores Jobson’s tough upbringing and his personal disability that he only truly became aware of after conversations with Joy Division’s Ian Curtis. Written with his life long friend, journalist Tim Barr, Into The Valley is a riveting story of life during the Punk scene as well as a tale of personal triumph over adversity
