OVERVIEW: Formed in 2008 by ex-Across Tundras founding member Heath Rave in Minneapolis, MN, WOLVHAMMER in their short existence have gained a reputation as one of America’s most notorious black metal influenced bands. With the U.S. being known for spawning such bands of said influence, bands such as COBALT, LEVIATHAN, LUDICRA, GOATWHORE, and NACHTMYSTIUM to name a few of the more prominent acts of said scene, WOLVHAMMER are poised to enter such a class with their new album “The Obsidian Plains”. Following up their 2010 debut “Black Marketeers Of WWIII”, WOLVHAMMER would quickly gain acclaim for their style of mixing black metal (DARKTHRONE, CELTIC FROST/HELLHAMMER), sludge, curst, and punk into a vicious unrelenting mix. Along with getting some touring under their belt (which included a stop at this year’s SXSW, where the band took part in the Profound Lore showcase), the band known to put on a killer live show, WOLVHAMMER are set to take things to the next level with their new album on their new label. Easily surpassing and trumping over their debut, “The Obsidian Plains” almost sees a new band entirely, an album which takes WOLVHAMMER’s sound into new ground and a new musical pedigree that they haven’t even come close to reaching with any of their previous material. This is partly in turn to the band having a more stable and focused lineup, which now includes ex-NACHTMSYTIUM guitarist Jeff Wilson amongst its ranks. Produced and recorded by Sanford Parker, “The Obsidian Plains” will put WOLVHAMMER amongst the ranks of the elite of America’s blackened metal scene, again finding their way alongside such aforementioned bands as Nachtmystium, Cobalt, Ludicra, and Leviathan.
