This surprising power-pop record is the debut full length from Philly’s Mike Bell & The Movies. It is not exactly what you’d expect from a band consisting of members of Algernon Cadwallader, but fortunately, something a little more fresh than that. An album full of pop and rock songs that would also appeal to most of our dads.
While showing off their influences in a quite obvious manner, that may not be something to hold against them. An album full of fun Elvis Costello-inspired songs make this a quite refreshing listen. While listening to this record, I couldn’t help but think to myself about the lack of this type of music in the industry currently. Some garage rock songs that unavoidably make you want to move and dance and sing. This record is just full of rock n’ roll songs that are sure to take you back a few decades.
Mike Bell & The Movies have made a solid and refreshing addition to the to the endangered sounds of power pop.
