In 1970, Pentangle were at the peak of their popularity with their first three albums impacting across the USA. Critically lauded on both sides of the Atlantic, and beloved by fans and musicians, in their prime they achieved the kind of sonic alchemy most bands dream of, gaining Jansch international notoriety amongst his peers for his majestic guitar playing, once crowned by Neil Young as the ‘Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar’. Together with Danny Thompson and Jacqui McShee, the high profile names of John Renbourn and Bert Jansch remain coveted enough to warrant excitement at any retrospective release, but this rare performance from Berkeley Community Theater, CA on May 29th 1970, during their third US tour is a spellbinding snapshot of a rare commodity, rich with intensely original music and a genuine diversity that strived only for its artistic goal.
