Futuristic black metal may be a trite header to peg this Italian duo with, but it sums up what they are all about concisely.
Progenie Terrestre Pura burst their way out of the Italian Black Metal underground with the follow up to their 2011 demo - U.M.A.
Sweeping from the ambient soundscapes that open the album through the mysteriously whispy vocals and into the guts of the music, it is easy to forgive a listener for asking "is this black metal".
The answer is yes, of course, there is just a heavier focus on instrumentation and scene setting than thrashing riffs and 'hammer of the gods' drumming.
That is not to say this album is bereft of any aggression - it is by no means a neutered effort!
This is a truly ecclectic foray into a genre that is widely perceived as growing stale - Progenie Terrestre Pura breathe futuristic life into this obscure corner of the music world.
