Serpent Warning formed in Joensuu in eastern Finland sometime in 2009. Their inaugural demo-EP “Beyond the Wisdom” was released in the summer of 2012, and it immediately caught the attention of I Hate, as it showcased a seemingly inexperienced band with an extraordinary talent for writing memorable and highly addictive doom metal. Their approach to the genre was so pleasantly familiar and traditional yet nothing about them was derivative, pretentious or superficial. Rare indeed, for us to find a newcomer with so much heart and soul. On account of the demo-EP not being widely distributed and going largely unnoticed, it’s good to know that the three demo tracks that impressed us so much were re-recorded for the debut album. The recording sessions also yielded three new tracks that are just as good, if not better!
