Shinyribs is the funky brainchild of Kevin Russell, who grew up in Beaumont, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. This infectious, 10-piece, funky party band's latest release Transit Damage was produced by Grammy winner Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. Shinyribs' trademark celebratory bayou funk/R&B/soul sounds are leavened with Russell's most personal songwriting yet, largely flashing darkly and deeper. Musical backdrops resembling Allen Toussaint or The Meters serve to cushion Russell's rusty razorblade lyrics. There's also a surprise cover of Hüsker Dü's "Pink Turns To Blue" which manages to fit perfectly with this collection of songs.
