Sometimes you lose faith. Labels like Noise, Steamhammer, Mausoleum, Earthshaker or the GAMA label group released many important and good albums in the eighties, but also average or worse. Meanwhile, a talented and rousing band called SQUADRON from the Stuttgart area remained undiscovered (until today). Even on Encyclopedia Metallum you won‘t find an entry with the two demos they recorded in 1984 and 1985. Not yet.
The band was founded in 1983, influenced by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Warrior, Manowar, Ozzy Osbourne and Dio. One of the first shows took place as the support act for Tyrant. They quickly gained a reputation as a gigantic live band, especially as they not only paid attention to polished songs, but also to their outfit and show. Just a few months later, 400 fans came to the Neckerhalle Esslingen, even though Accept were playing just around the corner on the same day. They also broke the audience record in “Die Röhre” Stuttgart, where they put on a big show after the second demo. Of course, bigger labels were also in touch, but no contract was signed. After a festival with Rage, Veto and Stranger, as well as a few shows with Czakan, 1987 was the end. Michael Moretto subsequently joined Kymera to replace Andi Deris, who had left to join Pink Cream 69. Klaus Sperling is still active in the business today and has been with the Nitrogods since 2011. He became known for his drumming with Primal Fear, Sinner, MP and Freedom Call.
The material has been painstakingly restored and mastered and is now available for the first time on CD and LP. The booklet and LP inlay contain liner notes and tons of photos and illustrations. This band could have gone far back then...
