Sixteen is a record of youth, ambition, and reflection. Titled after the number of questions asked in the lyrics, and written/recorded as the members faced impending graduation from school, Sixteen is an album about where we’ve been and where we’re going. Musically, there’s no question and no shame in the influences from all things Yemin, but that appreciation for the past is filtered through courage for the future and the band’s own approach to what was once known as pop-punk, establishing their own homage to melody and ambition. That recognition of the past as an affect of the future is prevalent in the lyrics as singer Scott Freeman considers how the person he’s been, the person he is, and the person he wants to be all fit into a world that isn’t always receptive
to straying from the beaten path. If you’ve ever been in that time of your life where you are equally terrified of the future taking over your past and excited to see what that looks like, this is the soundtrack to that time. It can be owned on vinyl once again, thanks to Revelation Records.
